Spathiphyllum, commonly known as Peace Lily, is a popular indoor plant valued for its glossy, dark green leaves that are often lance-shaped and pointed at the tip. The foliage grows in an attractive rosette form, with individual leaves emerging from a central crown or base.

One of the most distinctive features of Spathiphyllum is its white, hooded flowers, which resemble a white flag or peace symbol. The flowers are borne on long stalks that rise above the foliage, creating a striking contrast against the green leaves.

  • Light: Spathiphyllum plants prefer bright, indirect light. Place them near a window where they can receive plenty of filtered sunlight throughout the day. They can tolerate low light conditions but may not flower as prolifically.

  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch, typically every 1-2 weeks depending on environmental conditions. Spathiphyllum plants are sensitive to overwatering, so be sure to allow excess water to drain from the pot.

  • Fertilization: Feed Spathiphyllum plants with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing during the winter months when growth slows down.

  • Pruning: Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves regularly to maintain the plant's appearance and overall health. You can also deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
