Sedum burrito, commonly known as Burro’s Tail or Donkey’s Tail, is a charming succulent plant prized for its trailing stems adorned with plump, blue-green leaves. It’s an excellent choice for hanging baskets or containers where its cascading growth can be showcased.
Sedum burrito has long, trailing stems that can grow up to 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) in length. The stems are densely packed with small, fleshy, tear-drop shaped leaves that are blue-green to gray-green in color. The plant may produce small, star-shaped pink or red flowers at the ends of the stems during the growing season.
Light: Sedum burrito thrives in bright, indirect light. Place it near a sunny window where it can receive plenty of filtered sunlight. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning, but avoid harsh afternoon sun which can cause sunburn on the leaves.
Watering: As a succulent, Sedum burrito stores water in its leaves and does not require frequent watering. Water the plant thoroughly when the top 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) of soil are dry. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Reduce watering in the fall and winter when the plant's growth slows.
Fertilization: Feed Sedum burrito with a diluted, balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer). Fertilize once a month. Avoid fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant is dormant.
Pruning: Pruning is generally not necessary for Sedum burrito, but you can trim back any leggy or damaged stems to maintain a compact and tidy appearance. The pruned stems can be used for propagation.
