Herbs that you should add to your garden this October

Want to add some flavor to your food or liven up a cocktail, herbs are one of the simplest ways to do it. Whether it is some creamy pasta or some piping hot pizza, herbs truly help in preparation of our daily meals.

Growing herbs at home is an easy task and can be done by a beginner or a young gardener. You don’t need plenty of space or constant attention, with just regular watering & good drainage you can enjoy some fresh herbs right from your garden.

Here are some herbs that would be a great choice to start cultivating at your garden

  1. Basil

Basil is a strongly flavored herb that tastes like a combination of licorice and cloves. Basil is particularly used in Italian cuisines. It adds a distinctive flavor to salads, pasta, pizza among other dishes. Fresh basil is full of flavor as compared to dried basil. It provides vitamins, minerals & antioxidants. It grows well in a warm environment and well-drained soil.

Mint isn’t just used for garnishes; it is extremely versatile and can be used in both sweet and savory dishes. It is very easy to grow and requires very little water and can be frown in direct sun light or in shade. It is ideal to plant it in a small container, however if you want a lot of it, you can plant it in a large pot. You can add it to a wide range of dishes and drinks, lamb, peas, carrots, teas, ice creams, mojitos, and mint juleps.

Lemongrass has a sour lemon flavor and fragrance; it is usually used in teas and soups. Before using the lemongrass, you should cut off the top and bottom & remove the outer layers and the white base. Lemongrass is believed to have many health benefits like relieving anxiety, lowering cholesterol, boosting red blood cell levels. Native to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, rosemary is a perennial evergreen shrub. It has a sweet resinous flavor and grows well in warm regions with fair humidity. Rosemary is often used in seasoning poultry, lamb, and soups. It is one of the most aromatic and pungent among all herbs. It can be a great addition to focaccia, tomato sauce, and pizza. It is best to plant it in a pot or a large container.
