Calathea Rufibarba (80cm)

Calathea rufibarba, commonly known as the Furry Feather Calathea or Velvet Calathea. This plant is well-loved for its unique leaf texture and wavy leaf edges, which give it an appealing, feathery appearance. Calathea rufibarba features elongated, lance-shaped leaves with wavy margins. The top side of the leaves is dark green with a slightly velvety texture, while the underside is a striking purplish-red. The plant is known for its soft, fuzzy texture on the underside of the leaves and along the stems, giving it the nickname "Furry Feather." 

This Calathea typically grows to about 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) in height and width. It forms a bushy, upright habit, making it a striking addition to indoor plant collections.

Plant Care Guide:

• Light: Calathea rufibarba prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can scorch the leaves. Place it near a window with filtered light or in a spot that receives bright but indirect light throughout the day.

• Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry, using distilled or rainwater to avoid the chlorine and fluoride in tap water, which can damage the plant. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent waterlogging and root rot.

• Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture. A mix of peat, perlite, and orchid bark works well, providing the right balance of moisture retention and aeration.

• Fertilizer: Feed Calathea rufibarba with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when growth slows down.

• Pruning: Regularly remove any yellow or damaged leaves to keep the plant looking healthy and attractive. Pruning is mainly focused on removing old or unhealthy foliage.
