Metasequoia, commonly known as Dawn Redwood, is a deciduous conifer that makes an interesting and unique bonsai. It is one of the few deciduous conifers, shedding its needle-like leaves in the fall. When trained as a bonsai, it provides a miniature version of this majestic tree, known for its beautiful, feathery foliage and attractive bark.
- Light: If grown indoors, place the bonsai near a south-facing window where it can receive ample sunlight. Supplemental grow lights may be necessary to provide sufficient light intensity.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Dawn Redwood bonsai prefers more moisture compared to other bonsai species. Water thoroughly when the topsoil feels slightly dry.
- Pruning: Prune regularly to maintain the desired shape and size. Trim back new growth to encourage branching and a denser canopy.
