Fantastically salt and wind tolerant which is why you so often see it as a hedge in seaside gardens. Can be grown as a hedge, it is very tolerant of trimming.

COMMON NAME: Japanese Spindle Tree
BOTANICAL/SCIENTIFIC NAME: Japanese Eunonymus
LOCATION: light sandy, medium loamy soil. Prefers well-drained soil and can grow in heavy clay soil. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade area. It prefers dry or moist soil.
WATERING: Keep soil moist. Moderately drought tolerant for short periods only. Does not accept over irrigation or waterlogging.
SOIL: Prefers an organically enriched fertile soil with a pH 6.1 – 7.5, mildly acidic to neutral.
FERTILISER: Once a month, high in Nitrogen to enhance evergreen leaves. Apply a slow release 4:6:4 NPK fertiliser.
