Ctenanthe are related to Maranta, Calathea and Stromanthe. All are known and cherished for their extraordinary decorative foliage and are sometimes called Prayer Plants due to the way the leaves close upwards in a prayer-like fashion in the dark.
COMMON NAME: Never Never Plant
BOTANICAL/SCIENTIFIC NAME: Ctenanthe
LIGHT: Bright indirect light. If there is insufficient light, new leaves appear solid green rather than patterned with attractive colors. If there is too much light, the colors in the leaves fade.
WATERING: Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Ctenanthes do not like to dry out, and do not like cold or hard water.
SOIL: Use a good all purpose potting mix that drains well but still retains moisture.
HUMIDITY: High humidity is very important for these plants. If the air is dry, place your Ctenanthe on a pebble tray filled with water. Be sure the plant is sitting on the pebbles and not in the water.
FERTILISER: Once a month, high in Nitrogen to enhance the growth of evergreen leaves.
SIZE: Height 50cm. Approximate
